Many medical conditions require antibiotic premedication prior to oral surgery. Bacteria from the mouth can enter the blood stream and infect previously damaged heart valves or implanted devices, such as, prosthetic joints and artificial heart valves. Oral bacteria can cause life threatening infections, so be sure to inform us if you have any of the following conditions:

American Heart Association recommendations for premedication in adults are as follows:
Amoxicillin 2,000 mg. one hour prior to surgery or Cleocin 600mg. one hour prior to surgery, if you are allergic to penicillin.
