Diabetes

Diabetes is another health care issue that needs to be addressed before treatment. If your condition is managed with oral medication, you should be able to have oral surgery in a normal manner.

Insulin dependent diabetics usually do better with a morning appointment and can eat and take their insulin normally for minor procedures. For more extensive procedures needing IV anesthesia, a normal diet is prohibited. You will be instructed to not take your morning dose of insulin and bring your Acu Check to your surgical appointment, so we may monitor your blood sugar throughout the procedure.   Most patients who have managed diabetes at home with Acu Checks and Insulin adjustments do very well with office surgery. If you are have difficulty managing your diabetes you should consult with your physician prior to beginning your treatment.
